Finding time to write

Where exactly do you “squeeze it in?” I think I’ve come to realize that I might be a Monday through Friday lunchtime writer/blogger. My weekends are usually filled with “squeezing it in” – the laundry, the cleaning, the grocery shopping, the baby, MY HUSBAND…*phew* We won’t even begin to discuss the weeds beginning to choke out my English garden style flower beds.

It’s 6:57AM on Sunday morning. I’ve got a splitting headache, but while I was lying here nursing my aching cranium in the growing morning light, I couldn’t help but think about pieces parts of my story. And, while meandering off on several mental tangents, I realized I was thinking in narrative form. Why not commit those thoughts? So, I fall out of bed and drag myself downstairs to grab my laptop, headache and all. I reposition myself in my warm spot on the bed, and start typing. Is this how J.K. Rowling did it? “In the wee small hours of the morning,” to quote Carly Simon.
So my husband stirs, turns over, and grabs the remote. The early, early morning news is on now. The quiet is gone. I’ve had eleven whole minutes to myself. Inspiration dissipates. I’m distracted now.
Note to self: stay downstairs next time…

Hello, All…

I’m new at this, but I’m old at it as well. I’ve been “writing” for years. Or you might call it glorified note taking. At any rate, I have finally decided to sit down seriously with my scrips and scraps and hammer it out. But along the way, I’ve learned to look at the world of fantasy on screen with eyes that appreciate the words that inspire the images, and in print when a writer can cleverly and imaginatively tell a story.

I’ve also learned to learn from other people’s mistakes. All of us, at some point or another, have read a book or watched a movie where the writer, producer, or SOMEBODY along the way, has failed at logic, left gaping holes in the storyline, loose ends, shoddy dialogue, gratuitous profanity in place of meaningful dialogue to demonstrate a point, blah blah blah…

It is my hope, that I am able to transcend the literary flubs and produce a quality piece of work worthy of critical acclaim.

I invite you to accompany me on my journey…
